Mission Carwash - June 2nd 2007

After a week of heavy rain and wind, Saturday arrived with the sun shinning and no cloud.

It didn't matter how 'high or low or wide or deep' you were - there were jobs for all.

Sunday June 3rd will go down in history as the Sunday that every car in the Mission carpark was clean!

The carwash was an idea that came out of our 40 Days of Community campiagn - we did this for free for anyone who wanted their cars washed as a way of giving something back to the community of Cliffe.

Other events included clearing up the Doctors surgery carpark.

Fantastic thing was - here we were doing something for the community and all of us had a brilliant few hours with plenty of fun, laughter and buckets of water being thrown around!

Older Sunday School Christmas (?!?) Party - Ice Skating (February 3rd 2007)

It was Harriet's first time on the ice. She was so nervous that when she came off her trousers were all wet!!

Big sis Clara appeared to know what she was up to most of the time!!!!

Emma takes a break (I know it looks like she's propping up a bar!)

Zak is so graceful and really is a natural - just like his dad (natural what I hear you cry)

Katie - was another one to wet her trousers!!

Angela, Abbie, Sue, Harriet and Hannah cause chaos on the ice.

Not the worlds greatest group photo but they were all moaning about being cold! Mind you all agreed it was a storming afternoons fun.

2006 Snooker and Darts Evening

12th December 2006 saw our second Snooker and Darks championship. An incredibly serious event open to any males associated with the Mission who are competent masters of the green baize and the oche.

Simon and Barry prepare to defend their 2005 titles. Simon recovering from major open-nose surgery was never going to put up a serious defence. Barry dressed like a sofa should never have been allowed out in the first place!

Brian, looking smug - little did we know at this point that he has spent the past year practicing darts. Following last years competition, we had to refill the wall around the dart board after Brian's "interesting" throwing action.

Brian 'Robin Hood' Turner actually managed to get a dart into the back of another!

Celebrating his win over the 2005 dart champion.

Tension mounts in the snooker tournement as Darren takes on Rich.

Kevin the barman keeps a beady eye on the dart competition.

Rich, Mike, Jimmy, Brian and David.

He almost looks like he knows what he's doing!

Tony 'the Arrow' Baldwin

Little Jim on his way to the highest score of the evening.

Brian and David - having both been knocked out of both competitions there was nothing left to do but drown their sorrows.

Mike's cunning plan was to turn up late thereby missing the early rounds and get a 'by' into the latter stages of both competitions. It so nearly worked!!

Eyes down

Karl managed to get the highest dart score in his first match. A score that survived until the final of the competition when Jimmy sneaked in with a fluky 121.

Rich and Jimmy make it through to the final of the darts competition.

Jimmy gets the highest score of the night and Rich looks worried.

Jimmy receiving his prize for the highest score of the evening.

Rich being presented with the 2006 dart championship cup (we did ask the Treasurer for funding to buy some trophies but she said 'no' so we had to make do with egg cups instead). Rich, in his acceptance speech, advised us that this was the first cup he'd ever won and it would have pride of place on his side-board. Only for a year mate - you'll need to defend it if you want to keep it more than 12 months!

Mike and Darren shake hands before the snooker final. Mike tries one more dirty trick by attempting to crush Darren's hands in a desperate attempt to win!!

Darren with his winners cup!

The Bright Light Party - October 31st 2006

The general consenus was that the 2006 Bright Light Party was probably the best we'd had. All those who attended seemed to really enjoy the evening and it interesting to note that the games this year were a much bigger hit than in previous years - could this be due to the introduction of water, jelly and flour?!?!?!? It was also good that many of the parents stayed at the end for a drink and some cake - thereby allowing Emma to carry on with the face painting for another hour! The following are a selection of the photos taken - thank you to all the parents who have authorised these photos to be published on the website.

Mission Ramble over the marshes - October 29th 2006

Following the service on October 29th we had a fellowship meal. There was masses of food and we all had a good time. After the meal the fellowship fell into three groups - this wasn't particually organised it just seemed to happen - there were those who went home to sleep off their meal, there were those who just fell asleep at the Mission, and then there were sixteen hardy individuals who decided to walk off their lunch with a brisk stroll over the marshes..........

At this point the sun was shining and everyone was happy.....

Marion and Kim had the maps at this point - although we know they can read music it soon became very clear that they couldn't read maps!

Sue walking the plank.

Then it was Hannah's turn

and then Angela

Wendy wasn't so keen on trusting Simon that 'of course it'll hold your weight'

Sheila - takes it slowly but carfully

Marion doesn't!

Linda - later in the day Linda was overheard grumbling to Tony that she couldn't see what he was pointing at as it was too dark!! As organisor of the event Simon was relaxed as at no time were we more than two miles from civilisation (although admittedly for most of the time the nearest civilisation was in Essex on the other side of the River Thames)

Still walking

Abbie and Katie

Hannah helps Olivia across another dyke. If you look carefully you will notice the rest of the Worship Group in the background - desperately trying to work out what way up the map should be.

The children show the adults how it should be done

We made it - after what felt like three weeks we eventually made it to the sea wall.

Unfortunately the camera battery ran low at this point and was unable to power the flash bulb in the rapidily deminishing light. There are therefore no photos to show of the second half of the 'short afternoon ramble over the marshes'

Some hours later and having eventually made it back to the Mission, Marion sheds a tear of relief and Tony goes to sleep not counting sheep but dykes!)

Waverley Abbey

Over the weekend of October 20th - 22nd, a number of ladies from the Peninsula went to Waverley Abbey for a Women's weekend.

Emma - welly wanging.

Cheering on the welly wangers. NB: Marion is wearing Simon's shirt.

Zak and Darren concentrating hard to get the wasp that stung Hannah.

Dave 'Timmy Mallet' West after winning the table tennis tournament. Dave has now won this tournament as many times as Liverpool have been champions of Europe (which is more than Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd have managed it together!)

The speaker for the week, Stuart Pascal, finds himself in the hot seat being grilled on his interpretation of Ephesians chapter one.

Zak - dwole flonking. Following in his fathers footsteps - a possible future champion!

The weather turns slighly colder so not satisified with Simon's shirt, Marion is now also wearing his coat. Simon puts on a brave smile and worries about what he has left for Marion to wear the next day.

We believe in One Church, One Faith and two baptisms!! Terry loses the plot as he discovers the bottom of the River Severn twice in one day.

Waiting for our steam train home after a days hard canoeing (or a days hard swimming in Terry and Christopher's case).

Darren & Justine's Wedding

Proud Dad and nervous looking daughter!

7 across, eight letters, starts with 'M' and ends with 'age' - that's not a word, it's a sentence!!

Two thirds of the Bay tribe!

Some unkind individual thought it would be funny to throw an egg at the brides mother.

Christmas Day 2005

It was amazing that Mary was smiling so soon after giving birth. Joseph however felt slightly out of place in the Mission's spontaneous re-enactment of the first Christmas morning!

Angela's haircut

Angela as you've never seen her before - what we can't confirm at this stage is whether Sheila is laughing with Angela, laughing at Angela or simply crying!  So what was it all about? As many know, Angela's dad, John, was cared for at the Wisdom Hospice in Rochester before he passed away.  Hospices are always in need of additional funding so Angela decided that she would have a sponsored haircut to raise a few quid. A few quid may have been how it started out but in reality Angela rasied over £700 which was fantastic.

FRED AND HANNAH'S BAPTISM - SUNDAY 24th APRIL

In true Mission style - there had to be food involved. Cutting their cake (all of which was consumed very quickly thereby ensuring Terry had none to take home!)
